Students are tasked with creating a series of 3 illustrated re-designs of a film poster that they have chosen. The redesigns have to be based upon research into different eras (1950’s, 1960s design styles), visual re-contextualization using the language of other genres (horror movie becomes a comedy) or an art movement (Impressionist, Surrealist etc.). The work must adhere to the rules of visual communication and convey some meaning or filmic content.

Students are provided with extracts from works of literature and are then tasked with produce a visualization of the passage using only type. The visualization of the extract is resolved into a hand-made book of at least eight pages (collage/hand-drawn ) printed and then bound. The students have to convey meaning, emotion and communicate their impression of the excerpt.
